This Privacy Policy explains how GRIT Digital Media LLC (“GRIT,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use Pitch Scout at scout.gritdm.com (the “Service”). Pitch Scout is an independent scouting workflow tool. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Major League Baseball or Baseball Savant.

This policy is a disclosure of current practices, not a guarantee of MLB, GDPR, or CPRA certification. Contact counsel if you need a formal opinion.

1. Who We Are

2. Information We Collect

Account information

When you sign up or sign in, our authentication provider (Clerk) processes identifiers such as name, email address, authentication credentials, and a user id. We store the Clerk user id and email in our database (Neon Postgres) so we can attach your profile, notes, and usage records to your account.

Pitching profile and preferences

If you save a pitching profile or display preferences, we store that in our database, including velocity bands, arm angle, handedness, pitch types, optional linked MLB/AAA pitcher id, and UI preferences such as color palette.

Batter notes and scouting context

Notes you write about batters (text, batter id/name, and the filters in effect when you saved) are stored in our database so they persist across devices. Do not put sensitive personal data about other people in notes.

Product usage

We log in-product events (for example, teams or batters researched and profile/note saves) in our database, including your user id and email, so we can operate, debug, and improve the Service. Operators of Pitch Scout may review this information.

If you opt in to analytics cookies, PostHog may collect page views, approximate session duration, device/browser type, and — when you are signed in — your Clerk user id, email, and name. Analytics is off until you accept it, and stays off if your browser sends Global Privacy Control (GPC).

Payment information (if you purchase)

If paid plans are enabled, Stripe processes payment details. We store Stripe customer and subscription identifiers and entitlement status. We do not store full payment card numbers on our servers.

Technical and hosting data

Our host (Vercel) and security providers may log IP address, user-agent, timestamps, and requested URLs to operate, secure, and debug the Service.

Third-party baseball data (not your personal data)

To draw charts we request public pitch, player, and team information on demand from the MLB Stats API and Baseball Savant / Statcast endpoints. We do not keep a local warehouse of Statcast. Those providers may log technical request data on their systems under their own terms. Club logos and player headshots are loaded from MLB’s public image CDN.

We do not sell personal information

We do not sell your personal information. We do not sell MLB Statcast datasets or game video as a data product. If you opt in to analytics, we may share identifiers with PostHog as a service provider. California residents can use Privacy Choices / Cookie settings to opt out of analytics.

3. How We Use Information

Provide, maintain, and secure the Service
Apply your profile and filters to scouting views
Save notes and preferences you create
Authenticate accounts and prevent abuse
Respond to support and privacy requests
Measure product use (analytics only with consent, unless GPC blocks it)
Process subscriptions if billing is enabled
Comply with legal obligations

4. Legal Bases (EEA/UK visitors)

If EU/UK data-protection law applies, we rely on:

Contract — to create your account and provide the Service you request
Legitimate interests — security, abuse prevention, essential logs
Consent — non-essential analytics cookies
Legal obligation — when the law requires us to retain or disclose

5. Third-Party Processors

Named processors and public data sources are listed on our Subprocessors page. We do not control third-party privacy practices.

6. Cookies

See the Cookie Policy. Essential cookies (sign-in, security) are required for the Service. Analytics cookies are optional.

7. How We Share Information

With service providers who help us run the Service
If required by law, subpoena, or valid legal process
In connection with a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, subject to confidentiality
With your direction or consent

8. Retention

Account, profile, notes, and usage records are kept while your account is active and for a reasonable period afterward unless you ask us to delete them or law requires longer. Hosting logs follow our host’s retention. Analytics data follows PostHog’s retention if you opted in.

9. Security

We use reasonable administrative and technical measures appropriate to the nature of the Service, including HTTPS and authenticated routes for scouting tools. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

10. Children’s Privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If you believe a child has provided information, email privacy@gritdigitalmedia.com and we will delete it.

11. Your Choices And Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to:

Access or update account information (including via Clerk’s user menu)
Request deletion of account, notes, profile, and usage data we control
Object to or restrict certain processing
Export a copy of certain personal data
Opt in or out of analytics cookies

Email privacy@gritdigitalmedia.com to make a request. We may need to verify your identity. We will not discriminate against you for exercising privacy rights.

12. International Users

The Service is hosted in the United States (currently Vercel’s US regions). If you access it from elsewhere, your information may be processed in the U.S., where laws may differ from those in your country.

13. Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy. We will revise the “Last updated” date and, for material changes, may provide additional notice in the Service.
